Coface notes a deterioration of the average strength of companies in Europe and in the United States and is placing on negative watch, or removing positive watch of, 8 developed countries.
Despite a slowdown compared with 2010, Coface expects the steady pace of growth of emerging countries to continue, forecasting their economies to grow at 5.7%, in 2011. This contrasts with its growth forecast to 1.8% for developed economies, for the same period. This buoyancy of emerging economies goes hand in hand with improvements in the business environment.
The Country Risk Conference organized each year by Coface in Paris on an international level is followed by a regional one in key economic capitals worldwide. The tour is now stopping in Moscow, for discussions around the effects of the crisis, at a regional and local level.
After upgrading many of its country ratings in 2010, Coface is now downgrading 10 country ratings, including those for Japan and several countries in the Middle East/North Africa region.
